Semi-finals and Final

29 to 30 June and 2 July 2018

Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall

The 24 Semi-finalists will compete in three sessions in the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on 29 and 30 June 2018. Each of the three sessions will take the form of a concert open to the public, in which every contestant will perform a selection of opera arias with piano accompaniment.

At the end of the Semi-Final round of the Competition, the International Jury will announce the names of the 10 candidates chosen to compete in the Final round which will take place on 2 July 2018. The Final session will take the form of a concert performance open to the public in which each Finalist will sing with orchestral accompaniment by Hong Kong Virtuosi under the baton of Lio Kuokman.

Master Classes

1 July 2018, $200 Day Ticket

Musica Viva Limited, Organiser of the Hong Kong International Operatic Singing Competition 2018, is proud and honoured to present Master Classes to be conducted by 3 Members of the International Jury of the Competition.

Applications are now closed. All interested persons aged 16 or above and not limited to participants of the Competition were able to apply. A limited number of young artists will be selected from those who apply to sing before the Masters and receive their comments and advice.

Closing Date for Applications: 1 March 2018

Application Fee: USD20 (or the equivalent amount in other currencies according to the exchange rates on the day of submission) 

Application Fee can be paid via PayPal.

Master Class Fee: USD150
This fee is chargeable to successful Applicants selected to sing in the Master Classes. They will receive a demand note for payment at the same time as the announcement in April 2018.

Applicants who are not Hong Kong-based are responsible for their own airfares and accommodation expenses. The announcement of selected Applicants will be made in April 2018 on the website. Applicants should regard themselves as unsuccessful if their names are not included in the announcement.

Public Talks

30 June and 02 July 2018

Concert Hall and Recital Hall, Hong Kong City Hall

We are holding three Public talks during the competition period, with Mr Peter Katona, Mr Paolo Petrocelli and Ms Irina Chernova speaking about the opportunities and future of young operatic singers. These talks are free entry and open to public. Respective day ticket holders have entry priority.

Media Interviews with Winners

Arrangements are being made for performances and rehearsals to be recorded by Radio Television Hong Kong for possible broadcast on television, radio or online. Prize winners may be required to give interviews to the media on the morning of 3 July 2018.
