Ella Kiang began her vocal studies with Professor Jan Hu and furthered her study in the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Italy. Whilst at the Accademia, she made her operatic debut in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome. Since her return to Hong Kong, she has appeared frequently on radio, television and in recitals, oratorios and operas. Her major opera appearances include: Cio-cio-san in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, the title role in Tosca, Mimi in La Bohème, Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata, Elisabetta in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore.
Ella Kiang has given recitals and appeared as guest soloist all over the world. She has also sung as soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, and the 9th Symphony with the Hong Kong Oratorio Society, and in Buckner’s Mass and Beethoven’s Mass in C Major with the Music Office of Hong Kong.
Ella Kiang has devoted herself to musical education for more than 50 years. She is currently teaching at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Many of her students have an excellent reputation in opera and concert performances locally and abroad.
