Hong Kong International Operatic Singing Competition 2018
The first singing competition of its kind in Hong Kong is accepting application
As classical music continues to thrive and blossom in the cultural exposure provided in Hong Kong, there is a need to further foster and celebrate this overshadowed development. Undeniably, an increasing number of competitions and festivals are set up for instrumentalists, which resulted in a yearning need for another specialised platform to accommodate the singers. As Hong Kong has always been the hub of Asia, Australia and further abroad, there is no other better place to gather singing talents from around the world and establish the connections between people.
Our goals at Musica Viva are to promote performing arts of creative originality in their various forms and genres, in particular the appreciation, study, education and performance of music, opera and vocal art, as well as to create opportunities for creative and professional career development for budding artists. And for these purposes, we are proudly announcing the establishment of the Hong Kong International Operatic Singing Competition, the first major competition of its kind to take place in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
We are honoured to present our distinguished jury panel for the competition. These are five of the most prominent international singers, educators and opera producers of this generation from around the world and they are specifically chosen to identify and promote the very best young talents participating in our competition. They are Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Madam Sumi Jo, Professor Dennis O’Neill, Mr Peter Katona and Professor Lo Kingman.
Four prizes may be awarded in our competition and the first prize is an USD 15,000 cash prize, a Gold Medal, a Diploma of Distinction and a contract for a role in a Musica Viva opera production and/or a solo part in a concert performance. The cash prizes and medals are generously sponsored by Chow Sang Sang.
